- The study evaluates the effects of bisphosphonates on bone micro-architecture in children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
- 72 male children/adolescents with DMD (mean age 9.5 ± 1.8 years) were divided into treatment (zoledronic acid or alendronate) and control groups.
- Bisphosphonate treatment significantly improved trabecular bone score (TBS) and areal bone mineral density (aBMD) compared to the control group.
- Zoledronic acid showed a 35.8% increase in lumbar spine aBMD, while alendronate showed a 21.5% increase after 3 years.
- Both bisphosphonates demonstrated a favorable safety profile and were beneficial for improving bone health in DMD patients.
