- Russian Orbital Station (ROS) was planned to launch first elements in 2027 for human habitation by 2028.
- ROS was to include seven new modules, possibly a private habitat for space tourists, and operate autonomously.
- Originally, ROS was to orbit at 400 km in a polar orbit, covering all of Russia and launching from Vostochny Cosmodrome.
- Recent announcement reveals ROS will now repurpose the Russian segment of the ISS as its core.
- ROS will adopt a 51.6-degree inclination orbit, same as ISS, instead of the previously planned 96-degree orbit.
- In 2030, the Russian segment will separate from the US-controlled ISS segment, which will be deorbited by SpaceX Dragon.
