  • Tadalafil and tamsulosin were compared for managing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a 12-week study.
  • The study involved 82 men aged 40+ with moderate to severe LUTS at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana.
  • Both drugs significantly improved IPSS, QoL, Qmax, and PVR, but tadalafil showed superior Qmax improvement (18.7 vs. 16.9 mL/s).
  • Tadalafil significantly improved erectile function (IIEF-5 scores from 14.0 to 21.0), while tamsulosin had minimal effect.
  • Side effects were mild (5.1%) and evenly distributed between the two groups.
  • Tadalafil is recommended as a first-line option for BPH patients with coexisting erectile dysfunction due to its dual benefits.
