- Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) was evaluated for treating atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with heart failure (HF), using data from the ATHENA registry.
- Patients were categorized into three groups: no HF, HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and HF with mildly reduced or reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF/rEF).
- The study included 1,224 patients, with 68.5% having paroxysmal AF and 31.5% persistent AF. Among them, 14.4% had HF.
- Freedom from atrial arrhythmias at 1-year was 79.9% overall, with higher rates in the no-HF group (81.0%) compared to the HF group (73.3%).
- Paroxysmal AF patients without HF showed significantly higher freedom from arrhythmias (82.2%) than those with HF (68.6%). No significant difference was found in persistent AF patients.
- PFA with the pentaspline catheter is effective for AF in HF patients, with best outcomes in paroxysmal AF patients without HF.
