- Patients with anxiety disorders show decreased amygdala–anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) connectivity compared to healthy controls, with an effect size of g = -0.54.
- Increased connectivity was observed between the amygdala and regions including the left superior temporal gyrus (g = 0.46), middle temporal gyrus (g = 0.38), and cuneus (g = 0.35), although only the amygdala-ACC reduction remained significant after stringent correction.
- Subgroup analyses indicate the reduced amygdala–ACC connectivity is primarily driven by adult patients and the left amygdala, suggesting a lateralized vulnerability as a key neuroimaging marker in anxiety disorders.
