BlueME is a new magnetoelectric antenna system enabling reliable communication for underwater vehicles up to 730 meters.
The technology operates at 35–36 kHz, using a 3x5 antenna array that improves when submerged, boosting efficiency notably in water.
It overcomes limitations of conventional methods like radio, acoustic, and optical underwater communication with low power usage (< 10 watts).
Successful trials in freshwater and saltwater show consistent performance regardless of turbidity, obstacles, or interference.
Potential applications include cooperative fleet navigation, seafloor mapping, and real-time localization for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
