- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed lawsuits against Samsung, LG, Hisense, Sony, and TCL for allegedly spying on Texas residents through their TVs using Automated Content Recognition (ACR) technology.
- ACR technology captures screenshots of TV screens every 500 milliseconds and sends the data to servers and partners without user consent.
- A Temporary Restraining Order has been granted, blocking Samsung and its partners from using, selling, or sharing ACR data on Texas consumers.
- A similar order has been issued against Hisense, and other manufacturers may face the same.
- A hearing is scheduled for January 9 to decide on a temporary injunction, with the current order expiring on January 19 unless extended.
