- In 2022, over 2.2 million new chronic HBV and HCV infections occurred, with African Region responsible for 62.7% of new HBV infections.
- Deaths due to HBV and HCV exceeded 1.3 million in 2022, surpassing tuberculosis deaths, with HBV contributing the majority (1.1 million).
- Diagnosis and treatment rates are insufficient: 34.1 million with HBV were diagnosed (6.6 million treated), while 25.7 million with HCV were diagnosed (12.5 million treated in 2015-22).
