Meta plans to lay off 8,000 employees, cutting 10% of its workforce, and will not fill 6,000 open roles.
The layoffs are set to begin on May 20, as part of efforts to run the company more efficiently and offset other investments.
Meta's metaverse investments largely failed, and it has shifted focus to AI, recently debuting an overhauled AI product called Muse Spark to compete.
