- Premature mortality from cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in China is projected to decline by 37.4% from 2015 to 2030, surpassing the SDG 3.4 target of a one-third reduction.
- Regional disparities in CVD premature mortality are significant, with rates varying more than two-fold between northeastern and eastern China.
- Among CVD subtypes, stroke and ischemic heart disease are leading causes, while rheumatic heart disease shows the fastest decline and aortic aneurysm the fastest increase in premature death rates.
- China is likely to achieve the SDG 3.4 target overall, but challenges remain for males, who have a slower projected decline (31.3%) compared to females (47.2%).
