- Elevated lipid peroxidation (LPO) biomarkers are linked to autoimmune diseases (AIDs).
- Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death pathway, is implicated in AIDs pathogenesis.
- Meta-analysis of 175 studies (8227 patients, 6866 controls) shows significant elevation of malondialdehyde (MDA) in ten AIDs.
- Disease-specific elevations found for 8-iso-PGF2α and 4-hydroxynonenal in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
- MDA levels higher in active or severe subgroups of Graves' disease (GD) and psoriasis (PsO).
- Findings support LPO products as biomarkers and targeting ferroptosis as a potential therapy for AIDs.
