- MIDI instruments and modules use different types of TRS minijack connectors: Type A (standard), Type B, and TS (Type C).
- MIDI connectors have 3 pins: Current Source (Vcc), Shield, and Current Sink (Data).
- The 5-pin DIN connector adds pins 4 and 5 between the existing pins.
- Pin 4 is the current source (+5V), and pin 5 is the current sink (switched with MIDI signal).
- TRS plugs for MIDI are usually 3.5mm stereo connectors (Tip, Ring, Sleeve).
- Type A (MIDI standard) connects MIDI 4 to Ring, MIDI 2 to Sleeve, and MIDI 5 to Tip.
- Type B connects MIDI 4 to Tip, MIDI 2 to Sleeve, and MIDI 5 to Ring.
- TS (Type C) uses a mono minijack, connecting MIDI 4 to Tip and MIDI 5 to Sleeve.
