CERN Council reviews feasibility study for a next-generation collider

Particle colliders study the smallest constituents of matter and fundamental laws of the universe.
CERN and partners are planning a successor to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) post-2041.
A Future Circular Collider (FCC) feasibility study was conducted, concluding it is technically feasible.
The FCC aims to address open questions in particle physics, especially regarding the Higgs boson and beyond the Standard Model.
CERN Council supports continuing FCC studies to maintain leadership in particle physics.
Funding models and financial scenarios for the FCC are under development.
Further work is needed on territorial implementation, environmental impact, risk management, and cost reduction.
The FCC Feasibility Study involved 1,500 people from 162 institutes in 38 countries.
A decision on FCC construction is expected around 2028.
