- Hybrid genotype I and II ASFV D250R deletions provide protection against parental and genotype II strains.
- Two gene-deleted strains, SY18ΔD250R (genotype II) and JX23-02ΔD250R (genotype I/II recombinant), were developed.
- Both strains were significantly attenuated and induced strong immune responses in pigs with no clinical signs or mortality.
- SY18ΔD250R showed 80% protection against homologous SY18 challenge, with one pig succumbing due to weak immune responses.
- JX23-02ΔD250R-immunized pigs achieved 100% survival against both parental I/II recombinant and virulent genotype II strains.
- Both strains exhibited low or undetectable shedding, viremia, and viral loads, indicating high safety.
- JX23-02ΔD250R is a promising vaccine candidate against circulating ASFV strains.
