- This study evaluated preoperative systemic inflammatory indices and tear film parameters as predictors of pterygium recurrence after conjunctival autograft surgery in a matched case-control study of 94 eyes.
- Recurrent cases had significantly higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and worse tear breakup time (TBUT) and Schirmer I test results compared to controls.
- Multivariate analysis identified elevated NLR (≥2.0) and reduced Schirmer I (≤10 mm) as independent predictors of recurrence, suggesting systemic inflammation and impaired tear function are key risk factors.
