  • Proton beam therapy (PBT) compared to photon therapy shows improved prognosis in glioma, head and neck cancer (specific loci), esophageal cancer, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, extrahepatic biliary tract cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and colorectal cancer with pelvic recurrence.
  • PBT is associated with reduced toxic effects in head and neck cancer, pediatric CNS tumors, esophageal cancer, early-stage NSCLC, and prostate cancer.
  • Out of 65 outcomes from two-arm studies, only two had moderate certainty of evidence, while 63 had low or very low certainty.
  • The study concludes that PBT may offer better survival outcomes and reduced toxicities for several tumors, but more large-scale comparative studies and clinical trials are needed for validation.
