Rijksmuseum researchers discover new painting by Rembrandt van Rijn

Researchers at the Rijksmuseum confirmed that 'Vision of Zacharias in the Temple' (1633) is a genuine Rembrandt.
The painting was examined using advanced techniques, including materials analysis and stylistic comparisons.
It depicts a biblical scene where Zacharias is visited by the Archangel Gabriel, though the angel is not visibly shown.
The painting was excluded from Rembrandt's oeuvre in 1960 and disappeared from public view until recently.
A two-year study revealed that the paints, technique, and compositional changes align with Rembrandt's early works.
The signature is original, and dendrochronological analysis confirmed the 1633 date.
Thematically, it fits with Rembrandt's other works from the same period.
The painting is on long-term loan to the Rijksmuseum and will be displayed from 4 March.
