  • Study examines 'weekend warrior' (WW) vs. regular physical activity patterns and their associations with age-related eye diseases.
  • 86,271 UK Biobank participants wore accelerometers to measure moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) over seven days.
  • Participants categorized as inactive, weekend warriors (≥50% MVPA in 1-2 days), or regularly active (distributed MVPA).
  • Both WW and regularly active patterns reduced cataract risk compared to inactivity (HR=0.89 and HR=0.93, respectively).
  • WW pattern also linked to lower risks of diabetic retinopathy (HR=0.74) and age-related macular degeneration (HR=0.85).
  • No significant differences between WW and regularly active groups for most eye diseases, except nominal difference in glaucoma.
  • At higher MVPA threshold (≥300 min/week), WW remained protective against cataract (HR=0.91) and glaucoma (HR=0.86).
  • Findings suggest WW physical activity is a viable alternative for those unable to maintain daily exercise routines.
