- The study investigates plasma levels of CGRP, VIP, and PACAP in migraine patients before and after treatment with anti-CGRP(R) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), including erenumab (anti-receptor), galcanezumab, and fremanezumab (both anti-ligand).
- 80.3% of patients (45 out of 56) responded to treatment, achieving at least a 50% reduction in monthly migraine days after six months.
- Baseline plasma levels of CGRP, VIP, and PACAP did not correlate with clinical response to anti-CGRP(R) mAbs therapy.
- CGRP levels decreased significantly after three months in the galcanezumab group, but remained stable over time in patients treated with erenumab; data for fremanezumab was excluded due to assay interference.
- VIP and PACAP plasma levels did not change significantly over time and did not differ between responders and non-responders, indicating they are not influenced by the anti-CGRP(R) mAbs therapy.
