  • Nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) is a non-invasive method used to detect early microvascular changes in children with epilepsy.
  • Children on anti-seizure medication (ASM) monotherapy showed wider capillary apical loops, reduced capillary density, and more dilated capillaries compared to controls.
  • Longer treatment duration correlated with increased apical loop width, dilated capillaries, and abnormal capillary counts.
  • Valproic acid and carbamazepine were associated with lower capillary density, while newer ASMs showed more crossed capillaries.
  • NVC may help monitor endothelial dysfunction and vascular health in pediatric epilepsy patients undergoing long-term ASM therapy.
