  • High-load, velocity-intentional resistance training, either with elastic bands (HL-VIRT-EB) or water-based (HL-VIRT-AQ), significantly improved neurocognitive biomarkers, oxidative/inflammatory profiles, strength, physical function, and quality of life in older adults over 16 weeks.
  • Aquatic training (HL-VIRT-AQ) showed greater reductions in oxidative stress (F2-isoprostanes) and inflammation (TNF-α), along with larger gains in functional tests, compared to elastic band training.
  • Creatine supplementation provided additional benefits, including increased antioxidant activity (GPx), reduced inflammation (IL-6/TNF-α), and improved strength and function when combined with exercise; it also reduced oxidative stress and improved perceived health when taken alone.
