The strike occurred in the village of al-Tiri, where she took cover after an earlier airstrike near her vehicle; her body was retrieved hours later due to rescue teams being fired upon by Israeli forces.
Israel denied targeting journalists or obstructing rescue efforts, claiming individuals in the village violated the ceasefire, and stated the incident is under review.
Khalil's death brings the number of journalists killed in Lebanon this year to nine, amid ongoing hostilities that have resulted in thousands of casualties and displacements.
International organizations, including Reporters Without Borders and Committee to Protect Journalists, condemned the attack and rescue obstruction, warning of potential war crimes.
