Reduced intestinal epithelial GPX4 expression at the time of ileocolonic resection (ICR) predicts endoscopic recurrence.
GPX4 expression inversely correlates with mucosal endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress but is unrelated to genetic variants or clinical risk factors.
In mice, reduced Gpx4 expression increased ER stress and enteritis severity, which was mitigated by selenium supplementation.
Findings suggest GPX4 as a druggable target for improving CD recurrence prediction and guiding therapy.
