- Enterotomy (ENT) during abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) is rare, occurring in 1.5% of cases in this study.
- ENT patients had higher rates of recurrent hernias, longer operative times, and increased length of hospital stay compared to non-ENT patients.
- Wound complications and hernia recurrence were significantly higher in the ENT group, with biologic mesh associated with lower wound complications but similar recurrence rates.
- Prevention of bowel injury and aggressive management of wound morbidity are emphasized for long-term AWR durability.
