- Primary Sjögren's disease (SjD) patients and their close relatives have an increased risk of cancer compared to the general population.
- Among 323 primary SjD patients, 9% had a history of malignancy, with 5.9% being solid organ cancers and 3.1% hematological malignancies.
- Breast cancer was the most common solid tumor among SjD patients.
- The standardized incidence ratio (SIR) for all cancers in SjD patients was 3.3, with leukemia or lymphoma cases showing an SIR of 22.5.
- 43.3% of SjD patients had at least one close relative with cancer, with an SIR of 3.5 for relatives.
- Risk factors like age, gender, smoking history, and laboratory parameters did not significantly affect cancer risk in SjD patients, but having a relative with cancer increased the risk.
