  • Intestinal-type gastric cancer (IGC) follows a multi-step carcinogenic process.
  • Progenitor cells (PCs) are ancestors of antral gland mucous cells (GMCs) and pit mucous cells (PMCs) in NAG/CAG stages.
  • In the IM stage, GMCs and PCs may develop intestinal-like stem cell phenotypes.
  • Secretory progenitor cells differentiate into pre-secretory cells and goblet cells.
  • KIAA0101+PRAP1+ PCs may be the origin of early IGC.
  • Findings could aid in developing new prevention and treatment strategies for IGC.
