- Plasminogen supplementation was tested in sepsis-induced disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) to restore fibrinolytic capacity.
- 60 patients with sepsis-induced coagulopathy were randomized to receive either placebo or OctaplasLG®, a plasminogen-containing plasma.
- OctaplasLG® significantly increased functional plasminogen levels and improved plasmin generation in patients.
- A non-significant trend toward reduced mortality was observed in patients receiving OctaplasLG® (42.3% vs. 60.0%).
- In a murine model of septic DIC, plasminogen supplementation restored functional plasminogen levels and plasmin generation.
- The study concludes that plasminogen supplementation has therapeutic potential in sepsis-induced DIC by restoring fibrinolytic capacity.
