- Starting Oct. 12, European countries will implement the Entry/Exit System (EES), requiring American tourists to have fingerprints and facial images scanned at borders.
- The EES will collect passport information, entry/exit dates, and locations within the Schengen Area.
- Americans can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area and must wait an additional 90 days before re-entry.
- The system applies to all non-European visitors to the Schengen Area, with refusal to provide biometric data resulting in denied entry.
- Twenty-nine European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, will participate in the EES.
