Tailscale faced issues on MacBooks with notched displays where its menu bar icon could be hidden behind the notch, leading to user confusion and bug reports.
To address this, Tailscale implemented a quirky fix using occlusionState to detect when the icon is hidden and show a pop-up warning, though it could be triggered by other display quirks.
A more substantial solution is a new windowed macOS interface (default in version 1.96.2), offering features like searchable device lists, easy access to exit nodes, a Dock icon for errors, and a mini player, with plans for a similar Windows UI.
