- Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) and Photon Radiotherapy (XRT) were compared for pediatric neuroblastoma treatment.
- PBT showed higher 1- and 2-year overall survival (OS) rates (97.2% and 92.0%) compared to XRT (89.1% and 81.3%).
- PBT also demonstrated better progression-free survival (PFS) rates (96.1% and 86.1%) than XRT (78.6% and 64.5%).
- Meta-regression identified treatment modality as a significant factor for 2-year OS and PFS.
- Both PBT and XRT showed low rates of grade ≥ 3 acute adverse events.
- PBT may reduce long-term toxicity and could be a reasonable alternative to XRT in selected cases.
- Further prospective studies are needed to validate the findings.
