- Study aims to develop a scoring system for predicting postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
- Data from 225 patients was analyzed, with validation performed on a separate cohort of 51 patients.
- Six predictors were identified for PPCs: age ≥ 65 years, male sex, American Society of Anesthesiologists class ≥ 3, diabetes, diffusing capacity ≤ 65%, and extent of surgery.
- A scoring system (0-10 points) was developed, with an area under the curve of 0.75 in the derivation cohort and 0.73 in the validation cohort.
- The scoring system may help guide treatment decisions by predicting PPCs using easily accessible clinical variables.
