- 87 children aged 2-6 years undergoing outpatient chemotherapy were randomized into four groups: control, cold angiocath, Xylap cream, or combination.
- Pain and fear were measured using the FLACC scale and Children's Fear Scale (CFS) at baseline and during three intervention sessions.
- Combination therapy showed the greatest reduction in pain (-4.40) and fear (-1.39) compared to control (p < 0.001).
- Xylap cream alone significantly reduced pain (-3.52) and fear (-0.96), while cold angiocath had smaller but significant effects (-1.62 for pain, -0.87 for fear).
- Conclusion: Combination of topical anesthetic and cold angiocath is most effective for reducing venipuncture pain and fear in pediatric oncology patients.
