- Study assesses whether menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) increases all-cause mortality.
- Nationwide Danish cohort study with 876,805 women, followed for a median of 14.3 years.
- 11.9% of women used MHT, with an adjusted hazard ratio for mortality of 0.96 (95% CI 0.93-0.98).
- Longer MHT use (3-9.9 years) showed lower mortality hazard ratios (0.89-0.90).
- No significant differences in cause-specific mortality (cardiovascular, cancer, other) between MHT users and non-users.
- Women with bilateral oophorectomy who used MHT had 27-34% lower mortality hazard.
- Conclusion: MHT not associated with increased mortality in this nationwide cohort study.
