GCC Steering Committee approves Algol 68 front-end for GCC 16.
Algol 68 is an experimental addition, joining other languages like C/C++, Rust, and COBOL.
The front-end was initially rejected in March but now allowed with specific conditions.
Conditions include: not built by default, not part of release criteria, and maintenance requirements.
Jose E. Marchesi appointed as the maintainer for the Algol 68 front-end.
Algol 68 is a 50-year-old imperative language, successor to Algol 60.
GCC 16.1 stable release expected in March-April 2024.
