- Melatonin supplementation was evaluated in adult patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (AD) in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
- Participants received either 10 mg melatonin or placebo daily for 4 weeks.
- Primary outcome was AD severity measured by SCORAD index, which significantly improved with melatonin (p < 0.001).
- Secondary outcomes included improvements in pruritus severity (Pruritus-NRS, p = 0.006), sleep quality (ADSS, p < 0.05), and quality of life (DLQI, p = 0.003).
- No significant improvement in pain intensity (NPRS, p = 0.063) was observed.
- No adverse effects were reported during the study.
- Study limitations suggest the need for further research to confirm findings.
