  • Study evaluates inulin supplementation and physiotherapy-supported exercise (PSE) effects on knee osteoarthritis (OA) pain.
  • 117 adults with knee OA participated in a 2×2 factorial RCT, receiving inulin, PSE, both, or placebo for 6 weeks.
  • Inulin and PSE independently reduced pain; inulin also improved grip strength and pain sensitivity, while PSE enhanced physical function tests.
  • Inulin increased serum butyrate and GLP-1 levels, suggesting a gut-muscle connection, and had higher retention rates than PSE.
  • No synergistic effect was found between inulin and PSE, but both treatments showed meaningful pain reduction benefits.
