  • Invasive fusariosis (IF) is a severe mold infection in acute leukemia patients, with rapid dissemination and high mortality.
  • A 12-year retrospective study in a middle-income country analyzed 26 acute leukemia patients with IF.
  • Most patients (84.6%) had disseminated disease, with cutaneous lesions (73%) and pulmonary involvement (31%) common.
  • Antifungal prophylaxis was used in 69.2% of cases, mainly fluconazole or anidulafungin.
  • Treatment involved lipid formulations of amphotericin B, alone or combined with voriconazole.
  • 30-day mortality was 38.5%, higher in patients undergoing re-induction therapy and lower with antifungal prophylaxis.
