- 75% alcohol wet compress therapy was compared with other treatments for contrast medium extravasation (CMEX).
- The study was a randomized controlled trial conducted at six tertiary centers from 2019 to 2023.
- Participants were divided into four groups: 75% alcohol (AG), 50% magnesium sulfate (MG), 0.05% dexamethasone (DG), and routine care (RG).
- Primary outcome measured was the percentage change in swelling area at 4h, 24h, 48h, and 72h.
- Secondary outcomes included pain reduction and quality of life improvement using VAS and DLQI scales.
- AG and DG showed significantly higher response rates (75-100%) at 24h, 48h, and 72h compared to MG and RG.
- AG provided greater pain relief and quality of life improvement than DG, MG, and RG.
- 75% alcohol wet compress was as effective as dexamethasone and superior to other treatments for CMEX.
- The study suggests 75% alcohol wet compress could be a steroid-free alternative for CMEX treatment.
