- Systemd 258-rc3 is released with last-minute fixes and hints at increased requirements for systemd 259.
- Systemd 259 will require Linux kernel 5.10+ (preferably 5.14+), glibc 2.34, OpenSSL 3.0.0+, Python 3.9.9+, and other updated dependencies.
- Other bumped requirements include libxcrypt 4.4.0+, util-linux 2.37+, elfutils 0.177+, cryptsetup 2.4.0+, libfido2 1.5.0+, libseccomp 2.4.0+, and Python 3.9.0+.
- Feedback on version support removal can be provided via systemd-devel.
- The new requirements are considered reasonable and unlikely to affect most users upgrading manually.
- Systemd 258-rc3 is available on GitHub for testing.
