- Intrathecal phenylephrine (PE) reduces tactile allodynia in rats with mononeuropathic pain.
- The antiallodynic effects of PE are reversed by α1- and α2-adrenoreceptor antagonists, indicating receptor involvement.
- PE induces noradrenaline release from spinal tissue and causes smooth muscle contraction in a prazosin- and idazoxan-sensitive manner.
- Oral combination of PE and pregabalin (PGB) alleviates allodynia in neuropathic rats, with enhanced effects upon chronic treatment.
- The PE and PGB combination does not cause cardiovascular side effects or alter PGB-induced motor dysfunction under anesthesia.
