- Aldosterone effects differ in primary aldosteronism (PA) subtypes, particularly on corrected bicarbonate (cHCO3-).
- In PA, plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) correlates with lower serum potassium and higher cHCO3-, but not in non-PA.
- Unilateral PA (uPA) shows significant correlations between PAC and both potassium and cHCO3-, while bilateral PA (bPA) shows weaker or no correlation.
- cHCO3- is a potential biomarker for evaluating disease activity and detecting uPA, especially with PAC ≥ 150 pg/mL and cHCO3- ≥ 28 mmol/L.
