OpenAI has adopted skills in ChatGPT and Codex CLI, similar to Anthropic's Skills mechanism.
Skills in ChatGPT can be accessed via a `/home/oai/skills` folder and include functionalities for spreadsheets, docx, and PDFs.
PDFs and documents are converted to PNGs to preserve layout and graphics information.
A practical example demonstrated ChatGPT creating a PDF about rimu trees and kākāpō breeding season, taking 11 minutes.
Codex CLI also supports skills, with any folder in `~/.codex/skills` treated as a skill.
A Datasette plugin was successfully created using a skill in Codex CLI.
Skills are considered a significant development, with potential for formal documentation by the Agentic AI Foundation.
