ADT says customer data stolen in cyber intrusion

ADT announced that cybercriminals breached their systems on Monday, stealing a 'limited set' of customer and prospective customer information.
The stolen data includes names, phone numbers, addresses, dates of birth, last four digits of Social Security numbers, and tax IDs, but no payment data; customer security systems were not affected.
A cybercriminal group claimed to have stolen 10 million records and threatened to leak the data unless a ransom was paid, though ADT did not confirm the number impacted or ransom details.
ADT is notifying impacted individuals, offering identity protection services, involving law enforcement and third-party cyber experts, and has reported multiple breaches to the SEC in recent years.
The attack is linked to the ShinyHunters cybercriminal operation, which has targeted other high-profile companies and resurfaced this year with new data leaks, despite legal actions against some members.
