The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) ordered GitHub to remove the Bluetooth-based messaging app Bitchat, citing security risks.
The app enables decentralized peer-to-peer messaging over Bluetooth mesh networks, allowing anonymous communication without internet or central servers, which I4C claims hinders law enforcement investigations.
The order follows protests where similar apps were used during internet restrictions, and I4C warns the app could be misused by anti-national elements, terrorists, and cybercriminals to evade surveillance.
