- Anne Carson, a Canadian poet and essayist, won the Nobel Prize in Literature for her bold, inventive work that blends classical traditions with contemporary forms.
- Her oeuvre freely moves between poetry, prose, and translation, heavily drawing on ancient Greek literature and mythology.
- Notable works include 'Autobiography of Red', 'The Beauty of the Husband' (TS Eliot Prize winner), and the experimental 'Nox' in accordion-fold format.
- Carson, 76, will receive the medal and diploma in Stockholm in December; she joins a list of recent laureates including Annie Ernaux and Bob Dylan.
