- Russia is reportedly transporting anthrax-infected Siberian cattle carcasses to burial sites in occupied Kherson, creating conditions for anthrax spread.
- There are up to 50 burial sites, with about 10 deemed highly dangerous, located near settlements like Askania-Nova, Skadovsk, and Zaliznyi Port.
- The disposal violates sanitary standards; carcasses are buried instead of incinerated, often near roads and within 1 km of residential areas.
- The burial grounds lack secure fencing and maintenance, with soil subsidence and high groundwater levels increasing long-term contamination risks.
- Anthrax spores can survive in soil for decades to a century, posing a persistent biosecurity threat in the region.
