- The author cares deeply about their tools but acknowledges their personal preferences may not suit everyone.
- Recommended basic tools include ripgrep, fd, jq (with JSON conversion preference), pkill, and killall.
- For shells, the author uses Zsh but recommends Fish for most; they tried xonsh, PowerShell, and nushell with mixed opinions.
- The editor choice is Neovim with heavy customization; most users are better served by VSCode with plugins.
- Terminal multiplexing is done via a custom tmux fork, but integrated terminals like VSCode's are recommended for most.
- Debugging tools include strace, GIT_TRACE, and rr; C/C++ projects benefit from cmake with Ninja and compile_commands.json.
- Rust development uses bacon, cargo tree, CARGO_LOG, and bisect-rustc; general tools include watchexec, btop, tailscale, and obsidian.
- Tools on the author's radar include various debugging tools, OS-level utilities, container tools like bubblewrap, and development frameworks like ast-grep and typst.
How an AI Anime Is Created

- The studio prioritizes a single compelling element from a source story and builds a tight 20-minute episode around it, cutting all else.
- No LLMs are used for writing; all story development is done manually by humans.
- Directing involves creating a detailed beat sheet for action, angles, and pacing, then generating cheap, rough draft clips to test emotion and pacing.
- High-quality animation is generated using character and environment references, with an agent rerunning prompts; humans only step in to fix missed shots.
- Post-production includes upscaling, frame-by-frame cleaning of AI artifacts, and adding dialogue, music, and sound effects—mostly AI-generated except for voice acting.
- The studio aims to make anime creation financially feasible in the US, pay artists better, and avoid the exploitative Japanese production committee system.
- Stories are adapted for Gen Z/Gen Alpha audiences, often focusing on universal experiences like high school, with cuts to subplots and side characters to maintain pacing.
- The process involves story selection, beat sheet drafting, AI animation at 720p, and post-production using tools like Topaz, DaVinci, and Reaper.
- Music and sound effects are AI-generated for now, with plans to hire composers for full-length films later.
- The entire workflow emphasizes efficiency, iteration, and maintaining a human touch in creative decisions.
The Prompt-Wait-Evaluate Loop: How AI Kills Flow Without You Noticing
3 months ago
- The article discusses how AI coding assistants disrupt the flow state in programming, contrasting it with the traditional flow experience.
- Flow, as defined by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, requires clear goals, immediate feedback, and a challenge matching one's skill, which programming often provides.
- AI-assisted coding introduces a 'prompt-wait-evaluate' cycle that breaks flow by making goals unclear, feedback delayed, and challenge mismatched with skill.
- Interruptions from AI, unlike external ones like meetings or Slack, are self-generated and insidious, leading to context-switching and mental rebuilding.
- Research shows that interruptions significantly delay resumption of deep work, with AI cycles causing frequent shallow work bursts instead of sustained focus.
- The author suggests mitigating this by separating tasks into AI-suitable ones (e.g., boilerplate) and flow-valuable ones (e.g., architecture design), and batching AI interactions.
- The impact is not just on productivity but on job satisfaction and personal growth, emphasizing the need to recognize and manage AI as an interruption pattern.
Brave's latest browser release offers Containers for better and easier workflow
3 months ago
- Brave browser version 1.92 introduces Containers, a feature for isolating tabs to separate cookies and storage.
- Containers enable users to manage multiple identities on the same site, useful for scenarios like social media accounts, app testing, or separating personal and work browsing.
- While Brave already provides privacy via storage partitioning, Containers serve as a convenience tool for specific workflows.
- To use Containers, users can enable them in Settings or via right-clicking tabs, with support on all desktop platforms without extensions.
- The feature is being rolled out gradually, so availability may vary initially.
