- gdox enables direct reading of physical Xbox game discs via supported optical drives for emulation in xemu, without copying or installing the disc.
- It uses reversible volatile state changes in the drive's firmware to access the full disc layout, including hidden areas, and reads only requested sectors.
- The read path involves a compact virtual disc (XISO) built in memory from XDVDFS metadata, with file sectors mapped back to physical disc reads.
- Supported drives include MT1887-based models (GP63, GP65) and ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U, with strict identity verification before activation.
- Playback creates no persistent disc image; only requested bytes are read from the physical disc, and unused parts are never accessed.
- Preservation mode can generate a playable XISO or a full-disc dump with hashes, metadata, and evidence, but does not guarantee security-sector completeness.
