Nirmal Purja, a renowned Nepali mountaineer and former UK Special Forces member, died in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak while leading an expedition of 10 others.
The avalanche struck around noon on Thursday, and Elite Exped confirmed Purja's death along with other expedition members who did not survive.
Purja made history in 2019 by climbing all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in just over six months and later led the first team to summit K2 in winter.
