German Bundeswehr uses AI to screen applicants for right-wing extremism

- Germany's military intelligence (MAD) has deployed a specialized AI system for the first time to detect right-wing extremists among Bundeswehr applicants.
- The AI software, called Assisted Constitutional Loyalty Check (uVTP), was developed with a German IT firm and scans applicants' online activities for extremist content.
- Since July, the AI has screened tens of thousands of applicants, filtering out a low three-digit number due to lack of constitutional loyalty.
- The MAD aims to prepare for a future surge in Bundeswehr applications with this automated vetting tool.
